National Electrical Engineering Department Heads Association
CSEEDHA Meeting, October 13 and 14, 1996
CSEEDHA is the Central States Electrical
Engineering Department Heads Association.
CSEEDHA members meet two times a year - in the Fall and at the
NEEDHA meeting in the Spring. Our fall meeting was held Sunday and
Monday, October 13 and 14, 1996. Attendees at this meeting were:
- Prof. Jerry Crain - University of Oklahoma (Norman)
- Prof. Prof. and Mrs. Everett Johnson - Wichita State University
- Prof. and Mrs. Gerald Kane - University of Tulsa
- Prof. and Mrs. Kai-Fong Lee - University of Missouri (Columbia)
- Prof. and Mrs. James Roberts - University of Kansas
- Prof. R. Ramakumar - Oklahoma State University
- Prof. and Mrs. Rod Soukup - University of Nebraska
- Prof. and Mrs. Barry Spielman - Washington University in St. Louis
- Prof. and Mrs. S. S. Venkata - Iowa State University
- Prof. Jerry Yeargan (representing Prof. Bill Brown) - University of Arkansas
On Sunday evening the CSEEDHA activities commenced with a reception and
dinner at the Hyatt Hotel at Union Station. Our after-dinner speaker was
Prof. Michael Miller, the Newton R. and Sarah Louis Glasgow Professor in
the Department of Electrical Engineering at Washington University in St.
Louis. Professor Miller described the importance of the exciting research
that is pursued in the Center for Imaging Science, a national center
sponsored by the Army Research Office. Miller serves as the Director of
the Center. This center provides a format for the collaborative pursuit of
research on automatic target recognition among facutly from: Washington
University in St. Louis, Brown University, Harvard, MIT, and the University
of Texas at both Austin and El Paso.
On Monday the business meeting was held in the Electronic Systems and
Signals Research Laboratory at Washinton University. The agenda for the
meeting was as follows:
- Approval of Minutes
- Financial Report
- ABET 2000 Changes - Outcome Assessment
- During this portion Prof. Yeargan provided an overview of the
impending changes, shared his observations and insights, and led
the discussion.
- Enrollments - Undergraduate and Graduate
- Job Opportunities Assessment
- Number of "Electrical and Computer Engineering" Departments versus EE
Departments
- Accredited Computer Engineering Programs
- Research Colloborations; Opportunities for Consortia
- Intellectual Property Agreements and Institutional Support for

The business meeting was conducted from 9 AM to 1 PM.
