SAEEDH is the Southeastern Association of Electrical Engineering Department Heads.
A group of SAEEDH members gathered on March 15, 1997, from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM, in Orlando to plan the Fall meeting. P.K. Rajan informed about the options for the Fall meeting. The group favored an Atlanta hotel because of the expense of traveling to Hawaii in the same academic year (1997-98) for the annual NEEDHA meeting. The suggested dates for the Fall meting were November 13-14, 1997. it was reported that Roger Webb has graciously accepted the job of finding an appropriate hotel.
Aaron Collins presented a suggested topic for the Fall SAEEDH meeting, "Concerns About ABET 2000." He stated that since the new rules have no specific course requirements, some of our programs are subject to credit hour erosion in the Electrical Engineering area. Sherra Kerns stated that a meeting will be held at Vanderbilt University in April 1997 to attempt to construct an outline for Volume 2 of the required ABET documentation under the new rules. She asked for suggestions from other chairs by the second week in April. It was generally agreed that the topic of ABET 2000 was useful for the meeting.
Two other suggestions for topics were received but were not discussed by the group. (1) David A. Conner suggested that Debbie Powers (d.powers@ieee.org, office 770-263-9200 ext 4238, and home 770-49-6114) be asked to report on concerns about credit for the work of the faculty members who spend time in IEEE student chapter advising. (2) Another topic was the activities of SAEEDH members in Distance Learning.
