By this time all of you should have received this year's NEEDHA department
survey.  Jim Roberts, of the University of Kansas, has agreed to conduct
the survey this year.

Those of you who have been NEEDHA members for some years appreciate the
importance of this survey.  The fact that the survey has remained
consistent for many years makes it useful for charting various trends.
Several NEEDHA members have told me that they have found the survey
information useful in preparing for budget discussions with their deans.
We all benefit when participation by NEEDHA members is close to 100%.

Let me urge you to fill out this survey as carefully as possible, and
return it promptly to the NEEDHA office.  The deadline is January 15, 1997,
which is not too far away.  Please be sure this does not get lost in the
shuffle of paper on your desk during the upcoming holiday season.

Best of wishes to the entire NEEDHA membership at this time, for a pleasant
