ABET Workshop for C2k programs visited in 2000

NEEDHA Members,
The following is an update on the NEEDHA workshop on ABET C2k to be held in
Richmond, VA on June 12, 1999:

- This workshop is intended for those programs which will be visited for
accreditation of EE and/or Comp. Eng. programs under Criteria 2000 in the
fall of 2000.  

- In addition, representatives (one per program) of EE and/or Comp. Eng.
programs to be visited this fall (1999) under Criteria 2000 are also
invited.  The primary focus of the workshop is on the year 2000 visits to
allow time for action.  However, recognizing that the "Class of 1999" may
gain from each other by sharing insights, this group will convene in
parallel with the year 2000 group.  

- Visits in later years will not be accommodated in this workshop.
Tentatively, the workshop will be offered for the class of 2001 at the
NEEDHA annual meeting in New Orleans in March, 2000.

- Registration materials have been mailed to those programs which we have
identified for visits in the year 2000.  Please contact Kathy Ricker
(kricker@iec.org) if you would like registration materials.  Basic
information is included below.  In particular, early hotel reservations are
strongly encouraged to ensure space.  They may be made based on this email.

Below is an updated copy of the initial Workshop announcement:

As outlined at the Annual Meeting in Destin, NEEDHA is offering a Workshop
on June 12, 1999 for those programs which will be visited for accreditation
of EE and/or Comp. Eng. programs under Criteria 2000 in the fall of 2000.
This announcement is being sent to the entire NEEDHA membership so that no
programs are overlooked.

Purpose:  To share plans, practices, and results to date with regard to the
implementation of Criteria 2000 in preparation for the ABET visit.  To
develop a plan for specific additional activities in final preparation for
the visit.

Who is invited:  One person from each EE/CompEng program to be visited
under Criteria 2000 in the Fall of 2000 who is directly involved with
preparation for the visit. (Also representatives from EE/CompE C2k programs
visited in 1999.)

What to bring:  Each attendee should bring copies of material prepared to
date which relate to implementation of Criteria 2000 and the ABET self
study.  Examples include educational goals and objectives, constituent
input, related curriculum development activities, assessment plans,
assessment results and analyses, summary reports, etc.  Participants should
be prepared to make a brief presentation regarding their C2k status, self
study, and visit preparations.

Format:  Participants will be organized into small groups with a
facilitator who is experienced with respect to Criteria 2000.  Within each
group presentations of each program status will be made and best practices
will be shared.  The afternoon session will be organized around topics
which have been identified during the morning session as needing additional
attention.

Date:  Saturday, June 12, 8:00 a.m. through dinner.

Location:  Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA.

Cost:  $350 registration fee.
